Early Exit From Playoffs

The Wynford Royals ran into a tough Delta Panthers team in the first round of the state playoffs losing 21-15 and exiting the playoffs earlier than antipacting. Delta's 6-4 record was no indication of a weak team. The Panthers used a steady ground attack of B. Storeholder and J. Beverly which the Royals had difficulty controlling.
The Royals got out to an early lead on a 13 yard run by Zach Hoffman and two point conversion on a trick extra point play taking an 8-0. Wynford looked as if they were going to take an early 15-0 but a block in the back penalty negated the touchdown.
The Panthers got on the board just before halftime on a 6 yard run by Storeholder and the kick after was good bringing the score to 8-7 still in favor of the Royals. Delta put together two scoring drives during the second half both by Beverly giving the Panthers a 21-8 lead. Beverly's second score came after the Royals gave Delta a second chance on a face mask penalty on strong goal line stand.

Wynford would not give up. With roughly 8:00 left in the game, the Royals got good field position after the kick off and took the ball down the field and scored. Hoffman's 7 yard run brought the Royals to within seven at 21-15 with 6:49 left to play.
A strong defensive stand by the Royals gave them an opportunity to tie the game. With no time outs left and time ticking away, an interception ended the Royals playoff dreams. Wynford's season comes to an end with an impressive 9-2 record and another N10 championship.

Equally Matched Teams Collide

 Two equally matched teams, the Wynford Royals (14-10) and the Gibsonburg Golden Bears
(14-9), collided in round one of the sectional tournament. It was evident on the talents of each teams players with the match going five games.
Each player did not want this to be the last game of the year with every match being a battle to the end. The Royals used 61 kills, 14 aces, and 8 blocks as they traded points with Gibsonburg during each match. The Royals came out on top winning the match 3-2 with the scores of 23-25, 30-28, 25-23, 25-27, and 15-13.
The Royals will need an excellent effort like this evenings as they travel to Huron on Saturday night to face the talented Huron Tigers (15-7) in the sectional championship game at 6:30.

Royals Cap Off Season with Third Straight Shutout

The Royals took the field, pumped up, looking to keep the Copper Kettle. It was a rainy, breezy, and frozen night, but the loyal Wynford fans still showed up to support the Royals. As the football team came back on the field after warm-ups, the loyal fans rose to their feet and welcomed the team with an uproar of cheers. 
The Royals defense stopped the Redmen on their first possession forcing a punt. The snap sailed over the punter’s head and was recovered by the Royals on their own one yard line. The Royals offense came out on the field looking to get on the board quickly after the crucial Redmen turnover. The Royals did just that. Keaton Teynor ran the ball in for a Royal touchdown and Jalen Brown’s point after was good, giving the Royals a 7-0 lead. The lovely weather conditions and the Royals defensive presence affected the Redmen passing attack keeping the score 7-0 at halftime. 
Wynford came out aggressive in the third quarter scoring three times. They moved the ball down the field on their first possession, scoring with a 2 yard run by Nick Looker. Browns extra point attempt was no good, giving Wynford a 13-0 lead. Wynford continued to apply pressure to Bucyrus’ quarterback, Cole Murtiff, when Wynford’s Zach Hendrickson sacked him in the end zone for a safety, giving the Royals a 15-0 lead. Finishing out the third quarter scoring for the Royals was Jalon Brown, kicking a 20 yard field goal, increasing the Wynford lead to 18-0.
In the fourth quarter, Teynor ran the ball for a 20 yard touchdown with 4:37 remaining, giving

the loyal Royal fans more to cheer about. Brown’s kick was no good, giving the Royals a 24-0 lead. Wynford coach Gabe Helbert decided to make substitutions late in the fourth quarter when back up quarterback Zach Hoffman scamper 56 yards on a designed quarterback keeper with 13 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The point after failed, giving the Royals a 30-0 victory over the Redmen. The remaining fans that continued to brave the inclimate weather joined in the celebration as Wynford continued its dominance in the Bucyrus - Wynford rivalry by winning its 17th straight copper kettle game. The Royals take the inaugural Northern 10 championship with a 8-0 league record and finished 9-1 overall. 
The Wynford Royals will be heading into the postseason, finishing third in Division VI, Region 20 behind Defiance Tinora and Lima Central Catholic. Wynford earned home field advantage facing off against the 6th ranked Delphos Jefferson Wildcats (8-2) this Friday night at 7:30 pm. Tickets are on sale during school hours, 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m, through Friday. Also tickets may be purchased on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the school from 3:00-7:00 p.m. All presale ticket prices are $8.00 and $9.00 at the gate. Wynford Seniors Win in Impressive Fashion

The Wynford Royals played their last regular season home game Friday, October 24th. Nick Looker scored the first touchdown for the Royals on a 9 yard run, and Jalon Brown added the extra point giving the Royals an early 7-0 lead. The Royals increased their lead when Keaton Teynor completed a 33 yard pass to Kody Wilburn bringing the first quarter score to 14-0 in favor of Wynford. The crowd and the cheerleaders, along with the senior dads cheered on  their sons as they played their last home football game as a Wynford Royal. In the second quarter, Teynor converted on a two yard run making the score 21-0 in favor of Wynford at halftime. Buckeye Central slowed the Royals offense in the second half where Teynor and Hayden Rhoades were the only scores. Teynors touchdown was a 7 yard run while Rhoades was a 14 yard run giving the Royals a 35-0 win. The Royals continued their defensive dominance by holding its opponent scoreless and improving to 8-1 on the season. The excitement and intensity level of the Royals was contagious throughout the entire game as the Royals battled and defeated the Bucks. Wynford travels to rival Bucyrus Friday night in a key copper kettle match up and the outright Northern 10 championship on the line.

Tournament Trail Ends for Royals

The Wynford Lady Royals (17-7) ran into a very skilled Huron Tigers (19-4) team on Thursday in a district semifinal matchup at Seneca East High School. The Tigers defeated the Royals, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22. 
In set one, each team traded points before the Royals called a timeout with the score 11-7, slowing the Tigers momentum. The Royals could only manage to get within three points of Huron at 22-19 with a change in their normal defensive look. Coach Hurles said, “Our girls bought into our defensive change for the match which took the Huron hitters out of their offensive system.  When you have good hitters like Huron, our girls could not afford any unforced errors to allow the Tigers any momentum.” The Tigers eventually won the set with the help of unforced errors by the Royals, 25-19. 
In set two, Huron and Wynford volleyed there way to a 9-9 tie. Huron ran off two straight points before a Wynford timeout at 11-9. The timeout did not slow the Tigers, as they increased their lead to 17-11. Huron displayed great defensive play the entire set, as they routinely dug the Royals kill attempts, winning the set 25-17. 
The Royals would not give up easily in set three, falling down early 5-0. Wynford fought back, down 8-4, before calling a timeout at 11-5 when Huron began to pull away with a series of strong kills. During the timeout, Coach Hurles stressed to the girls, “Its a decision you have to make, you either live or go home.” At this point in the set, the seniors on the floor bought in and the underclassmen followed. The Royals gave the Tigers all they could handle in set three. After the timeout, Wynford fought back and took the lead 13-12. After taking the lead, Wynford could not finish off Huron. The set was tied at 14, 15, 18, 20, and 21 before the Tigers ended the Lady Royals season, 25-22. 
The Lady Royals volleyball team finished the season with an overall record of 17-8 and a Northern 10 league record of 13-5.

Royals Advance to District Play

The Lady Royals (17-7) needed five matches to get by the pesky Castalia Margaretta Polar Bears (12-11) in the sectional finals on Saturday night. Wynford defeated the Polar Bears, 25-11, 25-17, 19-25, 23-25, 15-11, to advance in tournament play. Wynford took the first set in convincing fashion with the help of many service errors by Margaretta. The Royals jumped out to an early 11-6 lead before the Polar Bears tried to stall the Royals rally with a timeout. This was to no prevail, as the Royals dominated the rest of the set.  
In set 2, Margaretta came out ready to play keeping the set close; tying the set at 6 all. Wynford stayed in control increasing their lead to 22-14, never trailing in the set, before finishing off the Polar Bears. 
Going into set 3, Wynford looked as if they would finish off Margaretta in 3 sets, but the Polar Bears had bad news for the Lady Royals. Nothing seemed to go right for Wynford in this set, as they continued to make mistakes on the court. Coach Hurles was happy to escape the night with a victory. She said, "Mental mistakes hurt us in the third set giving the Polar Bears life, forcing the match into 5 sets." The Polar Bears seemed as if they could do no wrong on the court taking an early 12-1 lead. The Royals would not go away, fighting back to within 3 points, 22-18, before Margaretta finished the Royals off. 
In set 4, the intensity of the match heated up. Each team continued to fight for the lead as the score flopped back and forth until Margaretta finally won the nail biter. 
Set 5 was no different in intensity, as both teams continued to trade points. The biggest lead in this set was five points held by the Royals at 12-7. The Polar Bears closed the gap to within 2 at 13-11 before an Alyssa Harrer kill and a Sydney Alspach ace sealed the match for the Royals finally bringing the crowd back from the edges of their seats. 
Wynford travels to Seneca East on Thursday evening at 7:30 to face the 19-4 Huron Tigers.

Royals Begin Tournament Play

The Lady Royals (15-7) opened sectional play by hosting a volleyball match on its own court. The Royals were able to host the sectional tournament because of their higher number 3 seed. This was a major advantage for the Royals on Wednesday evening as they defeated the, 11th seed, Gibsonburg Golden Bears (14-8) in four sets, 20-25, 25-9,25-18, 25-23.

The Royals had some difficulty in match one where it appeared they were not quite ready for the scrappy Golden Bears. The Royals committed 10 errors during the set finally giving Gibsonburg the lead at 11-10, and Gibsonburg never looked back. Winning the set, 25-20.

Coach Hurles team meeting at the end of set one must have finally got the girls ready to play in set two of the match. The Royals, Jade Stuckman, ran off the first 13 points of set 2, taking a 13-0 lead before allowing Gibsonburg to score. Wynford never looked back taking the match 25-9. Coach Hurles said, "We were definitely more aggressive during set two and hit our zones better than in set one."

The Golden Bears were not going to give up easily in the last two sets. Again, Wynford got off to a quick start with Stuckman's serving, taking an early 5-0 lead. As both teams traded points during the set, the Royals managed to put the Golden Bears away, 25-18. It looked as if the Royals were going to make the night interesting by allowing Gibsonburg to take the match into a fifth set. Gibsonburg got off to an early 7-4 lead before Wynford tied the game at 7. The set went back and forth ending up tied again at 17. At this point, the Royals decided enough was enough and finished off the Golden Bears, 25-23.

The Royals were lead by Alyssa Harrer's 18 kills, and Jade Stuckman's excellent serving where she was 26 of 27 for the Royals. Wynford host Castalia Margaretta, 6th seed, in the sectional finals starting at 6:00 pm.

Royals Defeat Arch Rivalry

The Wynford Royals played their biggest rivalry the Bucyrus Redmen on October 9th. The junior varsity played very hard and gave the Redmen two tough losses with the scores of 25-8, 25-23. Before the varsity game, the Royal seniors, Sydney Alspach, Lydia Miller, and Brooke Miller were escorted across the court by their parents. Each senior received recognition of what would be their last regular season home game at Wynford as volleyball players. Photos were taken as each senior received gifts and flowers from other teammates and Coach Hurles. It was evident that both parents and players were emotional. The varsity then played three competitive and exciting games. The Royals defeated the Redmen in each set as the teams played hard and kept the scores close til the very end, 25-21, 25-22, 28-26. Alyssa Harrer had eighteen kills and six aces, and Brooke Miller had twelve digs. The Royals improve to 13-5 in the N10 and 15-7 overall. They begin tournament play on October 15th hosting Gibsonburg at 6 p.m.

The Royals Continue Their Winning Streak

Despite the rain and cold of the football game, Friday October 3rd, the Royals easily defeated the Crestline Bulldogs. Before the game, the 2014 fall homecoming queen and king were crowned. Ellie Richmond was given the title of homecoming queen, and the king title was received by David Blank. The rain let up just in time for kick off. The first touchdown was scored early in the first quarter by Wynford senior, Austin Shutler. The extra point was added by Jalon Brown. The Royals ended the first quarter with three touchdowns, gaining one extra point with each, making the score 21-0. Wynford was playing a more technical and cohesive game, than Crestline. The next quarter was even more successful for the Royals, scoring four touchdowns and three extra points. This brought the score to 48-0 going into the second half. Due to the new OHSAA rule, the clock was only stopped for official’s timeouts in the second half with a team leading by more than 30 points. This gave the Royals enough time to score two more touchdowns, one in each quarter with mainly junior varsity players playing. The Bulldogs pushed through Wynford’s defense to gain a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, ending the game with a score of 62-6. Austin Shutler led the team with two touchdowns, as well as 106 of Wynford’s 223 yards receiving. Zack Hoffman had a total of 67 yards rushing and one touchdown, followed closely by Cole Fortner. Fortner contributed 50 yards rushing and scored one touchdown. Keaton Teynor made the leader board, passing for 286 yards. Kody Wilburn strengthened the Royals defense with four tackles and two sacks. Hayden Rhoades had three tackles and one sack. This win put the Royals at 5-0 in the Northern 10 (N10) Conference, and 5-1 for the season thus far. The Royals will be back in action Friday, October 10th, 2014, at Seneca East.

Homecoming Ceremonies

The Queen and King are Crowned

The rain paused long enough for the king and queen candidates to enjoy their homecoming parade with the car tops down. The crowd was cheering them on and waving as they passed by. All the girls were dolled up with their hair and makeup done and their nice outfits. The gentlemen looked handsome, too. The cars drove around the track to the visitors side allowing the candidates to get out. Friends and family lined the sidelines with flashing cameras coming from all directions. The candidates were introduced as they walked across the field. Ellie Richmond escorted by Brydan Lohr was first to walk. At this point, the rain began to fall slowly and increased with intensity as Brooke Miller and David Blank along with Samantha Lambert and Trey Smith were escorted across the field. Up next, our Russian foreign exchange student, Marta Kovalyova, was escorted by Hayden Rhodes. Last, Hannah Kocher was escorted by Kaleb Alspach. Following the candidates was the 2013 fall homecoming queen, Meghan Harrer. The 2013 fall homecoming king, Gage Roe, was unable to attend. As the crowd waited with excitement, Ellie Richmond was crowned the 2014 homecoming queen and David Blank was crowned the 2014 homecoming king. Meghan Harrer crowned them both while the rain continued to wash away the dolled up look. The homecoming ceremonies were followed by the homecoming dance on Saturday night and fun was held by all!

Rams Remain Undefeated in the N10

The Royals were hoping to follow the winning ways of the junior varsity squad but were unable to finish a sweep of the Rams. In junior varsity action, it took the Lady Royals three exciting sets to defeat the Lady Rams, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23. The varsity match started out in very competitive fashion against the Rams. In the first set, the Royals gave the Rams a battle, but came out on the losing end, 25-18. The Wynford student section was in full spirit mode as they cheered on the Lady Royals preparing for the bonfire which was later in the evening. The Rams did not allow this spirited crowd to affect them as they showed their strength at the net and ability to cover the floor to remain undefeated (16-0).  In the next two sets, the Rams continued to dominate the Royals defeating them 25-11, 25-14, handing Wynford their 6th lose of the season. The Royals fall to 12-4 in the N10 and 14-6 overall. Wynford is back in action on Tuesday, October 7th when they travel to Buckeye Central facing the 18-2 Buckettes.

Royals Cage the Tigers

The Lady Royals improve to 14-5 overall and 12-3 in the Northern 10 League. Wynford looked like a well oiled machine as they easily defeated the Seneca East Tigers in 3 matches, 25-6, 25-8, 25-15. The Royals were lead in serving by Brooke Miller and Alyssa Harrer with 4 aces each.  Harrer also lead the team with an impressive 15 kills followed by Mallory Moore and Maci Cooper with 6 a piece. On the defensive side of the the court, Jade Stuckman lead the team with 11 digs. The Royals are back in action at home tonight against the undefeated Upper Sandusky Rams at 5:30. Come out and support the Royals before heading out to the bonfire and pep rally for homecoming ceremonies this weekend.

Wynford Recognizes Student-Athletes

Chris Solis, athletic director, wants to recognize Wynford student athletes by starting a new program for students in grades 9-12. All students who participate in a fall,  winter, or spring sport will have the opportunity to be recognized. In order to be eligible, each student must earn a 3.5 grade point average during the previous quarter of their current sport. Mr. Solis said, "Our athletes put in a tremendous amount of time in the classroom as well as outside of the classroom. I believe our athletes are students first and athletes second, and I want to see that they get recognition for this accomplishment." Wynford's first class of scholar athletes for cheerleading, cross country, golf, volleyball, and football are as follows:

Cheerleading: Allie Crall, Shelby Sipe, Taylor Leonhardt, Hannah Underwood, and Hannah Zeigler.

He wants each athlete to be recognized as a scholar athlete while participating in a sport at Wynford. Devils Can’t Weather Royal Storm

The Royals freshman football team had a fantastic game against the Carey Blue Devils on Monday, September 22nd. The game was much closer than the score entailed. The first touchdown was scored on a one yard quarterback sneak by Wyatt Smith. The two point conversion failed. The Blue Devils marched right down the field answering with a touchdown and a two point conversion making the score 8-6, Carey. Wynford and Carey battled back and forth until Robbie Miller broke a long run to the three yard line, and Wyatt Smith punched it in on a quarterback sneak. Robbie Miller ran in the two point conversion making the score 14-8, Royals. In the middle of the second quarter, Carey scored another touchdown tying the score at 14. Later in the second quarter, Jordan Imbody caught a 15 yard touchdown pass in the endzone from Wyatt Smith making the score 20-14. The Devils marched right down the field and scored, converting the two point conversion, taking the lead 22-20. The Royals went three and out and were forced to punt giving the Blue Devils offense the ball on the 50 with about two minutes left in the first half. Carey marched right down the field for a last second chance to score. With time running out in the half, Carey attempted a long pass into the endzone where Jordan Imbody came up with a big interception returning it to the 30 yard line as time expired. The Royals had momentum on their side after the big interception to end the first half. When the Royals got the ball back to start the second half, they put together an impressive drive where Robbie Miller marched in for a 20 yard run. The Royals also converted the two point conversion giving the Royals the lead 28-22. The Royals made a big defensive stop and never looked back. The Royals put together another impressive drive leading to another big touchdown run from Robbie Miller with Zach Houck’s run completing the two point conversion. The Royals defense locked down the Carey triple option offense in the second half giving the Royals a 36-22 win. The freshman record improves to 3-1 for the year. Wynford is back in action on Monday, September 29th at Mohawk.

Pass, Set, Cure!

The Carey Blue Devils came into Royal territory looking for their second win against the Lady Royals. This game was also the Volley for the Cure game. The gym was filled with pink and excitement. To start off the night, the JV lost their first set 25-20 and then lost their second set 25-18. Before the varsity game, the volleyball team announced the pink king, Tyler Hatcher. Then the games began. The score went back and forth until eventually both teams tied at 13. The Royals then took the lead with an ace by Brooke Miller. Alyssa had the winning point with a kill, that gave the Lady Royals a win, 25-23. Set two started with a gym filled with excitement. The Royals trailed until Alyssa Harrer got them back in the game with a kill giving the Blue Devils a 19-16 lead. The gym was loud and bouncing with Carey ahead, 22-20. The Blue Devils won the second set, 25-20. With the third set underway, the Lady Blue Devils took an early lead, 5-0. Harrer finally got the Royals on the board, 6-1. As the game continued with excitement, both teams continued going back and forth with the score at 22-21 in favor of the Blue Devils. Harrer and Rhieannae Cory blocked a kill attempt by Carey and tied the game at 22, giving the Royals some momentum to end the set. Cory served and helped the Royals win the third set, 27-25. In between the third and fourth games, students Ellie Richmond and Haylee Johnson competed in a serving competition. Haylee Johnson won the competition, winning a gift card to Bakers Sports Shack. The gym was bouncing with a screaming student section. It comes down to this set! Maci Cooper was on fire with a total of six kills in the set. The Lady Royals were led in this set with big kills coming from Cooper, Mallory Moore, Sarah Ogden, and Harrer. Cory was back serving game point, but Carey received it and added a point making it 24-18, Wynford. Those were

the last points the Royals would surrender to Carey. With Carey serving, the Royals executed a perfect pass to Cory as she set Ogden and slammed it down giving the Royals a 25-18 win. Alyssa Harrer led the Royals in kills with a total of 25. Brooke Miller led the Royals with 26 digs, and Harrer, Miller, and Cory all had four aces to lead the Lady Royals. The Lady Royals fought against breast cancer and came up with a win in a 4 set match, 25-23, 20-25, 27-25, 25-18. The Lady Royals volleyball team is back in action this Thursday at Mohawk High School.

Reigning Buckettes Defeat Lady Royals

Although the Royals kept the energy up, they could not get passed Buckette’s strong defense and their skillful offense. The girls got off to a rough start in the first set, with the score ending up 25-12, Buckeye. They tried not to let that discourage them going into the second set, and kept up with the Buckettes for a while. The Buckeye girls were not about to let up on the Royals at any time. They kept their winning streak up with the final score of the second set 25-14, Buckeye. Junior, Jade Stuckman said, “It’s not the best I’ve seen our team play, and I know we can do better than what we did. We just couldn’t keep up, their a really good team.  We’re going to do everything we can to improve as a team.”  Leading the team in digs was Alyssa Harrer, Mallory Moore, and Brooke Miller with a combined total of 30. Alyssa Harrer connected on eight kills, despite the Buckette’s strong defense. Going in to the third set, Coach Shauna Hurles was not about to let the team get discouraged. She kept them motivated until the end. Although, the final score of the last set found the Royals on the losing end, 25-14, giving Buckeye the match 3-0. The Lady Royals do not plan on giving up any time soon, so catch them back in action at 5:30 on Thursday, September 18, at Ridgedale. Where they will be redeeming themselves and gaining faith back in their team. In junior varsity action, the Buckette’s handed the Royals a loss in two sets, 25-19, 25-15.

First Half, All The Royals Needed

On Friday, September 5th, Wynford beat Ridgedale in a home football game. The Royals kicked off the game with the first touchdown within the first 3:10, and Jalon Brown scored the extra point making the score 7-0. Nick Looker scored the second touchdown followed by Jalon’s extra point bringing the score to 14-0. Ridgedale was trying hard to score their first touchdown when Austin Shutler made an interception, and Cole Fortner later scored bringing the score to 21-0 in favor of the Royals. Cyle Skidmore started off the second quarter by recovering a Ridgedale fumble. Zach Hoffman later scored, and Jalon Brown added the extra point bringing the score to 28-0. Jeff Cramer surprised everyone with a one handed interception with 8:44 left in the second quarter. Shortly after, Keaton Teynor completed a 80 yard touchdown pass to Cole Fortner making the score 54-0. Trey Stone increased the interception total to three with his amazing one handed catch and return for a touchdown followed by a Jalon Brown extra point. This brought us to our half time score of 61-0. The 3rd and 4th quarters went by quickly because the clock did not stop. The game ended with the Royals not letting the Rockets score, making the final score 61-0. Coach Oliver said, “The team played well, and we came out and executed to earn a big victory”. When asked how he thought the Royals would do next week, Oliver said, “Last year Colonel Crawford defeated us, but this year I think we will win.” Next week the Royals will travel to Colonel Crawford and try to defeat their rival.

Royals Cage the Bulldogs

Thursday, September 4th, the Wynford Lady Royals took on the Crestline Bulldogs in the W.R. Donnenwirth Gymnasium. The Royals easily won the first match 25-9. The second match was not won without a fight. The Royals got down early, 5-0. Finally, they caught the Bulldogs, tieing the game up at 12 with the help of Sydney Alspach’s serves. The Royals finally caged the Bulldogs in the second match 25-17. The third match started off rocky as well for Wynford.  Brooke Miller’s serves as well as Alyssa Harrer’s strength at the net, brought the score to an even, 5-5. The Lady Royals held the Bulldogs at 12 to put the match away, 25-12, taking all three sets. Senior captain Brooke Miller said “We struggled to stay energized throughout the game, but we pulled through.” Another senior, Lydie Miller, shared, “It could have gone better, but I still had fun and I’m proud of my team.” Senior captain, Sydney Alspach said with pride, “I love my team!” Although Brooke and Lydie were a little disappointed with the Royal’s performance, Crestline gave the Royals a much needed break after their battle with Mohawk Tuesday, September 2nd.  Alyssa Harrer led the team with 14 kills and 9 digs. Brooke Miller also contributed 8 digs. Red Corey led the team with 31 assists. Sydney Alspach had 7 aces, Alyssa Harrer was not far behind with 5 aces. The junior varsity team also came out victorious. Winning the first match 25-11 and the second match easily 25-8 for the Lady Royals.

Royals and Bulldogs Match Strokes

Wynford and Crestline High School’s golf match at River Oaks Golf Club on September 2nd ends in a tie.The match was intense between the two schools as they traded strokes. The medalist of the night were Tyler Albright and Andrew Lutz with scores of 42. The top score from Wynford was a 44 from Quenten Stuckey followed by MacKenton Johnson with a 47. The overall score for the night for both teams was a 193. The Royals fall to 5-3-1. The golf team is back in action on Thursday, September 18th hoping to bring home a victory.

Crowd Gets Monies Worth

Every fan in the Wynford High School gymnasium sat on the edge of their seats during the intense five-set volleyball game between the lady Royals and the lady Warriors on Tuesday, September 2nd. The Royals managed to pull out a victory after losing the first two matches. In the first match, the Royals got off to a slow start. As they gradually started to shorten the lead by the Warriors, they lost 25 to 21.  After trying to correct their mistakes, the lady Royals fought back and would not let the Warriors win that easy. Unfortunately, the second match ended with a score of 28 to 26, favoring Mohawk. Not giving up, Wynford used all their talents and held nothing back winning the third set 25 to 18. As the errors progressed by the Warriors, the Royals pulled out another win 25-17. In the final match, the score only goes to 15. The adrenaline from both teams was flourishing, and the fans were full of excitement. Cheers from both Wynford and Mohawk were louder than ever with every point scored. The score continued going back and forth with the final match won by the lady Royals by a score of 15-13. Every fan rose to their feet when the ball hit the ground for the final point. Brooke Miller, the libero for the Wynford Royals, shared her thoughts on how she played as well as her team. “I started out rough, my passing struggled, but as the game progressed, I, along with the team, played scrappier and more aggressive.”  Miller had 15 successful serves, one being an ace. Alyssa Harrer also shared her opinion of her team’s performance. “In the beginning the team started out rough, but when we won the third game, we realized that we could definitely win.” The lady Royals had 40 successful blocks and only two errors. They also had 45 kills throughout the game. 

The junior varsity team fell short of a win, losing in two matches. The first game was 25-14. In the second match, the Royals did not let them off as easy. As they battled for the win, they fell short, losing 25-18.
