Alexis Showers, “Royal Times”
Two first year coaches for Wynford, Jordan Oliver and Mark Delaney, guided the Royals to victory on Thursday, December 11th. Coach Delaney’s varsity squad got off to a very explosive start to the season and beat the Riverdale Falcons, 73-66.
After the opening tip, it was apparent the Royals were going to play a fast paced offensive game and a very aggressive defensive game. Wynford ended the first quarter with a 15 point lead, 29-14 and never trailed in the game.
The Royals thought they were still on the football field committing 26 personal fouls and sent the Falcons to the free throw line 34 times. Riverdale got to within three points in the fourth period but could not get any closer while the cheerleaders, student section, and fans encouraged the Royals.
Alex Crall led the the royals with 18 points followed by the Braxton Tea and Hunter Miller with 12.
Oliver’s junior varsity squad won, 50-44, in a very sloppy first game with numerous turnovers. Michael Barber led the Royals in scoring with 12 points, Bryden Oberlander with 9, and Thad Hensel with 8. The Royals are back in action on Saturday, December 13th, on winter homecoming night against Ridgedale starting at six.
