Wynford Girls Basketball Defeats Rival Bucyrus
By: MacKenton JohnsonThe Lady Royals defeat their rivals the Lady Redmen on the Royal’s home court. The Royal’s varsity team improves to 2-0 in league play and showed a lot of energy allowing them to take an early four point lead at the end of the first quarter. They withstood several Redmen rallies throughout the second quarter to hold a 25-19 lead at halftime. The Royals came out in the second half and maintained the lead for the rest of the game. The final score of the game was 52-42. The leading scorer for the Lady Royals was Meghan Harrer with 18 points. The Lady Royals played well as a team and improve their record to 4-2.

The Lady Royals junior varsity also defeated the Bucyrus Redmen on Tuesday evening. They also started out quickly with Hannah Kocher scoring the first points of the game. Gretchen Harris followed with another quick field goal increasing the Royals lead to 4-0. The Royals went on to maintain their lead throughout the game; never trailing. By halftime, the Lady Royals had an eleven point lead 28-17. The two rivals battled back and forth, but the Redmen could not keep up with the Royals aggressive offense and strong defense. Sydney Alspach was 4 of 5 beyond the three point arc, and Gretchen Harris chipped in with 6 field goals both finishing with 12 points. The Lady Royals improve to 5-1 on the season. The Wynford girls are back in action at home on Saturday, December 14th against Upper Sandusky at 1 p.m.
