Volleyball Versus Carey

Pass, Set, Cure!

The Carey Blue Devils came into Royal territory looking for their second win against the Lady Royals. This game was also the Volley for the Cure game. The gym was filled with pink and excitement. To start off the night, the JV lost their first set 25-20 and then lost their second set 25-18. Before the varsity game, the volleyball team announced the pink king, Tyler Hatcher. Then the games began. The score went back and forth until eventually both teams tied at 13. The Royals then took the lead with an ace by Brooke Miller. Alyssa had the winning point with a kill, that gave the Lady Royals a win, 25-23. Set two started with a gym filled with excitement. The Royals trailed until Alyssa Harrer got them back in the game with a kill giving the Blue Devils a 19-16 lead. The gym was loud and bouncing with Carey ahead, 22-20. The Blue Devils won the second set, 25-20. With the third set underway, the Lady Blue Devils took an early lead, 5-0. Harrer finally got the Royals on the board, 6-1. As the game continued with excitement, both teams continued going back and forth with the score at 22-21 in favor of the Blue Devils. Harrer and Rhieannae Cory blocked a kill attempt by Carey and tied the game at 22, giving the Royals some momentum to end the set. Cory served and helped the Royals win the third set, 27-25. In between the third and fourth games, students Ellie Richmond and Haylee Johnson competed in a serving competition. Haylee Johnson won the competition, winning a gift card to Bakers Sports Shack. The gym was bouncing with a screaming student section. It comes down to this set! Maci Cooper was on fire with a total of six kills in the set. The Lady Royals were led in this set with big kills coming from Cooper, Mallory Moore, Sarah Ogden, and Harrer. Cory was back serving game point, but Carey received it and added a point making it 24-18, Wynford. Those were
the last points the Royals would surrender to Carey. With Carey serving, the Royals executed a perfect pass to Cory as she set Ogden and slammed it down giving the Royals a 25-18 win. Alyssa Harrer led the Royals in kills with a total of 25. Brooke Miller led the Royals with 26 digs, and Harrer, Miller, and Cory all had four aces to lead the Lady Royals. The Lady Royals fought against breast cancer and came up with a win in a 4 set match, 25-23, 20-25, 27-25, 25-18. The Lady Royals volleyball team is back in action this Thursday at Mohawk High School.
